Dying Light 2 Collector's Edition & Statue Possibly Leaks Online

A convincing image that could depict the collector's edition for the long-delayed open-world zombie game Dying Light 2 has circulated online today. Developed and published by Techland, Dying Light 2 was first shown off in a gameplay demo behind closed doors at E3 2018 with an announced release date in 2020. That date was moved in January of that year, with the developer now hinting via social media it that has a lot to share in 2021. This is why many believe that things like the collector's edition are coming together behind the scenes, which lends credibility to the presumably leaked new image.

Dying Light 2 follows in the footsteps of the much-beloved original game, which released in 2015 and saw prominent updates throughout most of the last five years. This includes Dying Light: The Following, a large-scale expansion that added drivable buggies and new areas to the game's open-world. There were also crossovers with UnturnedChivalry: Medival Warfare, and Left 4 Dead, with each adding weapons to the game for free. Finally, Techland added in a side mode as DLC based on its canceled demon-slaying shooter Hellraid, which is a pretty unique way to integrate work from another project into an existing success story. That kind of innovation is why fans are eager to see what Techland can do with a full-on sequel.

As reported by Eurogamer, a leaked image has spawned from a Czech retailer and was quickly picked up by users on ResetEra. The image reveals that the collector's edition will include a Deluxe Edition of Dying Light 2 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. In addition to the game, the box includes a limited figurine depicting protagonist Aiden descending on an undead opponent, a "secret location's [sic]" map, an art book, a steelbook case for the game, a UV flashlight, and UV stickers.

Claims are floating around that the boxed set is hovering around $250, but that price is unverified at this time. There has also been no official word on a new release date for the title or a reveal of this collector's edition, but the image appears fairly genuine and the timing for an upcoming announcement would match up with what the developer has already promised. Fans have been quick to draw comparisons between Dying Light 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 because of their delayed development processes and open-world gameplay promises. The game is even aiming for previous-gen hardware, so it's not hard to see why these comparisons have some worried.

Although it is still delayed without a confirmed release date, Dying Light 2 is a game many still look forward to. From the Call of Juarez series to Dying Light's forefather Dead Island, Techland has always been an ambitious developer. It's created both hits and misses in its time, but the games the hits tend to be massive critical successes - and even the studios failures tend to at least offer unique experiences. The team is aiming higher than ever before with this sequel, so a lot of promise could lie in that ambition.
