Halo: MCC Custom Games Browser Coming As Early As Next Week
At long last, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is getting a custom game browser as early as next week according to developer 343 Industries' latest community update. After a rocky launch in 2014, Halo: MCC has grown over the years and become a must-own for Halo players new and old.
343 Industries regularly tweaks and teases new additions to Halo: MCC and, just about every time, the updates are both well-implemented and well-received. After adding Halo 4 in November, the collection was complete but 343 Industries promised much more to come, and have planned for six more seasons worth of content to be released. Per the studio's latest community posting, it looks like some of those additions could be coming sooner than expected.
343 Industries Community Manager John "Unyshek" Junyszek posted the latest update coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Halo Waypoint, which contains a list of additions and changes coming to the collection. Chief among the biggest changes being flighted soon are the long-awaited Custom Game Browser and a new-to-consoles Halo 3 map, and the full list reads:
- Custom Game Browser: a new way to play with each other in MCC
- Season 6 content
- A new map for Halo 3 from Halo Online
- FOV slider support for all Xbox One consoles
- FOV slider will no longer be locked when Xbox Series X|S devices are set to 120hz
- Double Keybindings
- Mouse & Keyboard support for consoles
- Advanced Audio options
- View Model Customization options
The custom game browser was first mentioned recently, but a release date was not mentioned. Now, according to Junyszek, "If all goes well in Rings 1 and 2, we plan to roll out our next public flight as early as next Thursday, February 18." For clarity, Junyszek and the rest of 343 Industries refers to its open/closed betas as, "flights," and the individual phases of those betas are called, "rings." Essentially, if the playtests go well, Halo: MCC could have a custom game browser very soon.
The addition of a new map to Halo 3 however is an unexpected surprise. Halo 3 has not gotten a new map since 2009's Mythic II map pack, which arrived a whopping twelve years ago. The post includes an aerial view of the map, but no further details were listed. As for the "Season 6 Content," there was no elaboration on that either, but it is safe to assume it will include many new Halo cosmetics just like season five did.
Halo: MCC gets better and better with each subsequent update, and the addition of a custom game browser is probably one of the bigger additions to the collection; custom Halo games are typically some of the most fun players can have. One of the Halo series' most popular game modes, Grifball, started out as a custom game and was a staple of the franchise. Despite Grifball's removal, other players have recreated the match via custom games and now, with the browser, Halo: The Master Chief Collection players will be able to more easily enjoy the classic game mode again, along with plenty others.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
