Every MonsterVerse Titan In Godzilla vs Kong's Trailer Explained

The first official trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong includes both familiar and new Titans for the MonsterVerse. Legendary and Warner Bros. kicked off the kaiju-heavy cinematic universe in 2014 with a reboot of Godzilla. Gojira's latest film's success sparked plans to do much more with Toho's famous creatures. Kong was reimagined with Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla returned a few years later for a sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Each film introduced new Titans to the MonsterVerse and set the stage for the biggest ones to collide in Godzilla vs. Kong.

After several delays and a release strategy change that will see Godzilla vs. Kong debut in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, the marketing campaign has finally kicked off in full. The release of the first Godzilla vs. Kong trailer gave the world an exciting glimpse of what will happen when the two creatures come face-to-face. The movie will feature plenty of monster action based on the trailer, as Godzilla and Kong are shown battling multiple times. This is possibly because Godzilla is the king of the monsters, but Kong also sees himself as the alpha. It even teases an epic backstory that pits them as ancestorial enemies.

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Godzilla vs. Kong's trailer heavily relies on the title monsters and their many fights, but there are more MonsterVerse creatures included. Godzilla and Kong will undoubtedly receive the most screentime, but that doesn't mean other Titans are out of the fight. And while there could be an entire catalog of monsters in the film, here are the Titans that do appear in Godzilla vs. Kong's trailer.

Godzilla returns for a prominent role in Godzilla vs. Kong, but it might not be in the capacity many expected. Gojira launched the MonsterVerse and saved humanity in 2014's Godzilla, where he battled a pair of MUTOs who nearly unleashed their offspring upon the world. Godzilla later returned in Godzilla: King of the Monsters to save humanity again from the threat posed by Ghidorah and Rodan. By the end of this film, Godzilla defeated Ghidorah and became the King of the Monsters. He is also quite firmly established as a protector of humanity, although it appears something has changed by the time of Godzilla vs. Kong.

The trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong frames Godzilla as the movie's villain. Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler) says during the footage that Godzilla is attacking, and they have no idea why. His daughter, Madison (Millie Bobby Brown), believes that an outside force is controlling Gojira. It is not clear what Godzilla's mission is, but he seems to be the aggressor throughout the trailer. Not much has changed for the giant lizard, otherwise, as he still looks the same and doesn't use any new powers in this footage.

Since Godzilla vs. Kong's trailer framed Godzilla as the bad guy, that makes Kong look like the hero so far. Kong has only been in one MonsterVerse movie so far, but a lot has changed for him since the Vietnam War setting of Kong: Skull Island. That movie saw him defeat a few Skullcrawlers and protect the humans who originally tried to kill him. While that Kong still towered over the rest of the creatures and beings he encountered, he was still growing. And with more than 40 years passing since then, the Kong who returns in Godzilla vs. Kong is much more mature and ready to take on Godzilla.

After only being about 104 feet tall in Kong: Skull Island, the trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong confirms that he is now almost the exact same size as Godzilla - who was 393 feet tall in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. With Kong nearly quadrupling in size since his last appearance, he'll also pose a greater threat to Godzilla with the aid of his Battle-Axe. He'll have the aid of the humans and Monarch, it appears, as he's willingly traveling with them (albeit in chains) to continue protecting the young girl he's formed a bond with. It is once again worth noting that Kong seemingly does not respect or respond to Godzilla's command over other Titans at the end of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

One of the new Titans featured in Godzilla vs. Kong's trailer is a snake creature known as Nozuki. The inclusion of Nozuki in Godzilla vs. Kong came from old toy leaks, but the trailer shows Kong battling the winged serpent monster, seemingly in the Hollow Earth. It isn't known if this battle takes place in the present day or if this could be a flashback to Nozuki and Kong (or one of his ancient relatives) fighting long ago. Not much else is known about Nozuki at the moment, but there are popular theories within the MonsterVerse fandom that Godzilla: King of the Monsters planted seeds for Nozuki to be an ancient rival of Kong's.

The Godzilla vs. Kong trailer also provides a glimpse of the film's other confirmed new Titan, Warbat. This new creature is similar in design to Nozuki, but Warbat's wings are red based on the film's toys. It seems that Warbat and Nozuki are both there to fight Kong in the Hollow Earth, but the trailer also appears to tease another clash between them. They look to be flying down at Kong in an unknown location.

Most exciting of all, there appears to be a tease for Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong's trailer, and he may even be the creature attacking at the trailer's start. Mechagodzilla has not yet been introduced in the MonsterVerse, but it has a long history within the Toho monster universe. The giant mechanical version of Godzilla first appeared in 1974's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. While it was originally shown to be an alien, future appearances of Mechagodzilla made it a human-made weapon. There are no crystal clear shots of a physical Mechagodzilla in the trailer, but some teases are included.

The giant robotic Godzilla potentially appears right at the start of the trailer. The footage starts by showing humans running from mass destruction, and a Titan is shown to be responsible. It appears to be Godzilla initially, but the red illuminating from its underside has sparked speculation that this could be Mechagodzilla instead of the real Gojira. Even if that turns out to be the real Godzilla, a later shot in Godzilla vs. Kong's trailer gives a better tease of Mechagodzilla. The above shot gives a great look at what appears to be designs for a mechanical Godzilla replica, and the movie's synopsis teased humans are the real villains. This looks to be Mechagodzilla, and other merchandise backs up the belief that the Titan will appear at some point during Godzilla vs. Kong.
