No Man's Sky Player's BioShock Rapture Replica's Too Big For The Game

One dedicated builder in No Man's Sky has spent years constructing an underwater structure that's not unlike the city of Rapture from BioShock. A location from the first two games in the series, Rapture was a city placed underwater by its own mad tyrant. It's one of the most popular video game worlds created during the seventh console generation, and it's inspired plenty of creative endeavors in gaming since, with modders having recently designed the city in VR using Half-Life: Alyx. Now, space-faring explorers can witness an underwater structure just as grand in their game of choice.

Of course, many who played No Man's Sky on launch day probably didn't expect that there'd still be players in 2021, much less those dedicated to building megastructures like this. The space exploration game from developer Hello Games has gone through several transformations over the course of the previous generation, evolving from a barebones experience to one of the most in-depth survival experiences available. Almost every facet of the underwater Rapture-like creation would have been impossible in the base game, which goes to show just how much the game has progressed and fulfilled its initial promise.

No Man's Sky builder chongsparks posted his creation on Twitter this past weekend, confirming that the structure took years to build in-game. Constructed underwater on a dead planet, the facility is cheekily called the "Thermal Underwater Research Development." PC Gamer messaged the player following his post, and chongsparks offered some commentary on his work. He stated that there was never a full plan going in, he just found corners of the map and started expanding what he was working on. By the time he had completed the work, the neon wonder stretched beyond the limits of the game's creation system.

While the structure's creator has offered the coordinates should players want to explore it at their leisure on PlayStation 4, he also warns that visitors can only witness a small portion of its massive size. This is because the builder used tricks to bypass some of No Man's Sky's internal systems and expand far beyond what the game typically can handle. Chongsparks doesn't even know when he went over the limit, saying that he just kept going session after session. While No Man's Sky has prompted many creators and modders to invent new places out of the game's crafting tools, few creators are as dedicated to their own underwater city as No Man's Sky's own Andrew Ryan.

Hello Games had a rocky start with No Man's Sky, but it stuck with it and created something that fans and builders are now deeply dedicating themselves to. It's hard to even imagine this kind of project coming together in the game after living through the launch, but Hello Games has polished off thits ir tarnished legacy and ensure that fans will be extremely excited about whatever ambitious projects it tackles in the future.
