Remaining Lupin Episodes Will Release On Netflix This Summer

Netflix original series Lupin will be returning with new episodes this summer. The french mystery thriller was created by George Kay in collaboration with François Uzan and premiered on Netflix in on January 8, 2021 with an initial five episodes. The show stars Omar Sy who plays a professional thief named Assane Diop who seeks revenge after his father was framed for a crime he didn't commit.

For his inspiration on being a professional thief, Assane Diop looks to the classical fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, who was created by early 1900s writer Maurice Leblanc. Leblanc's character has famously been used in many contemporary film and literary adaptations like the Lupin the Third Manga series and in many novels by writers who've continued his stories in their own styles. Lupin's creators have also looked toward tales for inspiration as they have loosely adapted Leblanc's stories to create their show.

According to Netflix, this summer's part two will comprise of another five episodes following the thrilling heists of Assane Diop. In a graphic released on Twitter this morning, the release was announced for this summer: "Lupin Part 2... this summer!" While part one was directed by Louis Leterrier and Marcela Said, part two will be directed by Ludovic Bernard (The Climb) and Hugo Gélin (Love at Second Sight).

Lupin has become a surprising success, garnering 70 million watches since its premiere earlier this month. It is the first French series to hit Netflix's top ten list in the U.S. and in many other regions as well. The show's star, Omar Sy, is a seasoned actor with many French and American acting credits under his belt. He played Bishop in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Barry in Jurassic World, and most recently he performed the French dubbing of Joe Gardner in Soul.

It's common for Netflix to release single seasons in two parts, like it is doing for the final seasons of both Ozark and Lucifer, but doing so usually means an extended wait between parts. The release of part 2 of Lupin is great news for fans because it is being released so soon after the first half aired, and won't require an extended wait. Even though no plot details for part two have been divulged, the next part will likely build on the suspense left in episode five. While there are many plot points to theorize about, fans won't have to wait too long to see what happens next.
