TikTok Adds Creator Q&A Feature: How It Works & Requirements Explained
TikTok is working on a question and answer feature for the app that allows creators to engage with their followers in a new way. Creators on TikTok can already take part in livestreams where they can answer questions in real time, although going live on TikTok requires the creator to have a certain number of followers and be at least sixteen years of age. Even if a TikTok creator doesn’t meet these requirements, they can still create content while building up more followers.
The app has been undergoing several changes and updates in the past few months in order to improve the experience for users. Back in November, TikTok extended a licensing deal with Sony Music, resulting in the option for creators to add a track produced by Sony Music Entertainment artists. In December, TikTok added graphic video warnings to certain videos so users can choose whether they are exposed to potentially upsetting videos or not. At the same time, TikTok also added an option for text to be read aloud by the app. This not only provided another accessibility option, but also an additional creative element to videos.
According to a report by TechCrunch, the latest video and livestream feature provides creators with an opportunity to reply directly to a question or comment without having to post a new video. Creators will also be able to view questions in one place and there isn’t a limit to how many questions they can receive. As for users who want to submit a question, there are two options. They can either tap the 'question and answer' button that appears in the comment section or they can ask questions through a link on the creator’s profile.
For now, it appears the question and answer feature is only available to creators who have opted in and have public accounts with at least 10,000 followers. Current participants include creators taking part in the Creator Fund Program launched last year to help individuals produce their own unique content. The question and answer feature is already being tested around the world and TikTok plans on expanding its availability to more testers in the coming weeks.
Adding a question and answer feature is a great way to make sure TikTok stays competitive with other social media apps. A similar feature is already included in Instagram Stories, as well as Facebook Live. It should also be beneficial for creators, as they will have a new avenue to express themselves or explain TikTok video points in an interactive way.
