Baron Zemo Costume Featured In New Falcon & The Winter Soldier TV Spot

The official Twitter account for Falcon and the Winter Soldier shares a TV spot that features Baron Zemo in his full costume, adding in subtitles that confirm the character's identity. Zemo (Daniel Brühl) revealed his villainous side in Captain America: Civil War after he lost his family in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Still working as a Sokovian Armed Forces colonel, Zemo's master plan is to pit Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) against one another in hopes that the rising tensions will lead to a full-blown war. He manipulates the superheroes and their grief until they battle, which leaves his hands clean of a fight.

By the end of Civil War, Zemo is locked up in the same underwater prison as Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and the rest of Team Cap. It is unclear what the character has been up to since then, how he got out of the prison, and what his plan is moving forward. But what fans do know is that Brühl's reappearance as Zemo will lean further into his comic persona, as confirmed by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and  Brühl himself. Zemo will return in Disney+'s Falcon and the Winter Soldier, hopefully with some answers to fans' questions and some developments to the character's future storyline.

With all the buzz around Baron Zemo's reappearance, fans have been keen to see any developments involving the character. Recently, one fan caught a glimpse of Zemo and his iconic purple mask in a TV spot. On Thursday afternoon, the Falcon And The Winter Soldier Twitter released the same ad, this time with subtitles that definitely prove that it was Baron Zemo featured in the video.

Zemo's return to the MCU is exciting for a number of reasons. Not only will it help to satisfy fans who felt robbed out of seeing Baron Zemo's full character arc, but hopefully it will also lead to some sort of resolution to Civil War's driving question: should superheroes have the liberty to fight battles without governmental accountability? While the MCU has yet to offer any answers, Zemo's voiceover stating that superheroes "cannot be allowed to exist" suggests that the upcoming series will lend more focus to this issue that was pushed aside for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

The return of Civil War's more nuanced villain is also exciting because of what it means for Falcon's character. Although he is currently posed to become the next Captain America, he likely won't assume the role until a significant threat forces him to become the leader that the Avengers have been missing in Cap's absence. Zemo could play a large part in this development, especially now that he has his iconic purple mask and even more reasons to seek revenge against all superheroes. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will release on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
