Crash Bandicoot 4 PS5 Upgrades Take Advantage Of DualSense, Resolution

When Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time arrives on PlayStation 5, it will make full use of the new system's cutting-edge DualSense controller and 4K Resolution. Everyone's favorite marsupial made his triumphant return on PS4 last year, earning developer Toys For Bob high praise from critics for retaining the colorful atheistic and surprisingly challenging difficulty that made the Crash franchise one of Sony’s earliest flagship gaming franchises during the PS1 era – though lukewarm reception from players put the series’ future into question.

However, Activision assured fans that Crash 4 would be coming to newer consoles like PS5, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch in March, meaning that the delightfully warped Bandicoot and his colorful costars aren’t going anywhere for the time being. While it’s still not certain if players who already own the game on PS4 will be able to upgrade for free, Toys for Bob has just provided an enticing look at several new features that will be employed on the new PS5 hardware.

Today’s PlayStation State of Play livestream kicked off with a fresh look at Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on PS5, with Toys For Bob Creative Producer Lou Studdert describing some of the new features that this updated port will include. Fans will be able to render the already eye-popping Crash 4 in crisp 4K resolution and listen in immersive 3D audio if they have a compatible headset, and the DualSense’s adaptive triggers will let players feel the buzz of Neo Cortex’s DNA-altering laser blaster, the pull of Tawnia’s grappling hook, and the suction of DingoDile’s vacuum cannon.

Furthermore, those who already own Crash 4 on PS4 will get to transfer their incomplete save files onto the PS5, where they can take advantage of the new port’s Activity Cards to track their achievements as they work toward getting the monumentally difficult “106% Completion.” Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will be available on PS5 on March 12.

PlayStation’s latest State Of Play event was brief, but it gave PS5 fans a sneak peek at several promising titles like Housemarque's sci-fi horror game Returnal, Heart Machine’s Solar Ash, and Arkane Studios’ time-bending shooter Deathloop, as well as expansions to existing games like the new Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade DLC. Fans hoping for a new look at God Of War: Ragnarok or Horizon: Forbidden West were out of luck, but the show was a fun look at the PS5's exciting catalog for the upcoming year.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is already a fun and vibrant game, so getting to see the bright and colorful world Toys For Bob has put together is certainly an exciting prospect – as are the promised enhancements of the DualSense’s adaptive triggers and immersive 3D audio. It’s all part of making sure that players will get to experience Crash 4 like never before when it arrives on PlayStation 5 next month.
