Every New Power Scarlet Witch Has In WandaVision | Screen Rant

Warning! Major spoilers for WandaVision below.

Scarlet Witch has always been considered to be one of the most powerful Avengers, but WandaVision has given Wanda a number of new powers and abilities than the MCU has previously shown. The Marvel series has introduced an exponentially greater power cap for the grieving Avenger, proving that she has only just scratched the surface of her potential.

As introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda's powers come from the Mind Stone. She and her brother Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) volunteered to be among the Sokovian citizens to participate in Hydra experiments with the Infinity Stone. As a result, Wanda developed the powers of telekinesis and telepathy. Up until WandaVision, those were the only powers she seemed to possess.

As WandaVision takes place just three weeks after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda is still reeling from the loss of Vision. That immense grief has seemed to allow her to tap into a new level of her powers that she has never used before. It suggests that Wanda's powers are tied to her emotions — the stronger they are, the more powerful she becomes. These enhanced and added abilities will likely lead to a complete tonal shift for Wanda in Phase 4 of the MCU. Here are all the new powers and abilities she's exhibited in WandaVision.

It's all but confirmed that WandaVision is a loose adaptation of the comic book storyline "House of M," in which Scarlet Witch creates an alternate reality to cope with her grief and trauma. Vision appears as a key player in WandaVision even after his death in Avengers: Infinity War. The Marvel show could have easily credited Vision's appearance to Wanda's telepathy. But WandaVision episode 5 confirms that's not the case.

The episode reveals intelligence agency S.W.O.R.D. took custody of Vision's body after his death. But nine days before the events of WandaVision began, Wanda broke into the facility to steal back the body of her lost love. This information, coupled with the fact that a brief flash of Vision as a walking and talking corpse appeared in episode 3, confirms that Wanda somehow found a way to bring the deceased synthezoid back. At the time of writing this article, WandaVision has yet to confirm just how Wanda pulled that off. But however she did it, it confirms just how powerful Wanda is becoming.

In WandaVision, Scarlet Witch gives birth to twins Billy and Tommy. The S.W.O.R.D. agents monitoring the situation in Westview believe that the boys, and everything Wanda created, was the result of Wanda's telepathy. But after Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) was evicted from Westview, she confirmed that the boys were very much real — she helped to deliver them, after all.

The boys were also brought into the world in an unusual manner in the comics. Wanda borrowed the life essence of Mephisto, Marvel's version of the devil, to bring her sons to life. While it's been heavily theorized he may play a role in WandaVision, Mephisto's presence has yet to be confirmed. So Billy and Tommy's birth had to be altered a bit. But the fact that Monica confirms they are real provides a big hint for the future of the MCU. It's long been suspected that Marvel plans to introduce the Young Avengers into the fold. In the comics, Billy (AKA Wiccan) and Tommy (AKA Speed) are members of the group. With their introduction as real, living beings in the MCU, it's a hint that the audience may have just met the first members of the team.

At the end of WandaVision episode 2, Wanda and Vision are celebrating her sudden pregnancy when they hear a noise outside. The couple goes outside to see a stranger to Westview in a beekeeper outfit rise from the sewer. Wanda firmly states, "No," and seems to rewind time in order to achieve a more desirable outcome. That power is typically associated with one specific Avenger — Doctor Strange. It's been confirmed that the events of WandaVision are going to tie directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessWanda herself will appear in the film in a rather major role. WandaVision has yet to confirm why Wanda has these new powers, but her new ability to manipulate time will undoubtedly forge a strong bond between her and Doctor Strange in the upcoming film.

WandaVision's exposition-heavy episode, "We Interrupt This Program" shows Westview from an outsider's perspective. One of the most peculiar elements of anomaly that S.W.O.R.D. notices is Wanda's newfound ability of matter transmutation. If something comes into Wanda's bubble that doesn't fit her sitcom-based delusion, she transforms it into something that fits the mold. When S.W.O.R.D. sent an agent in a hazmat suit into Westview, his outfit was changed into that of the less intimidating beekeeper the second he crossed the barrier. When Monica attempted to fly a  S.W.O.R.D. drone into Westview to get a bird's eye view, Wanda immediately transformed it into a toy helicopter.

This new power is an important reflection of Wanda's state of mind in WandaVision. She's drowning in grief. But that emotion almost seemed to help her focus and strengthen her powers. Episode 5 of the Marvel series shows that, while she's completely immersed herself in her sitcom delusion, she's coherent enough to recognize threats from the outside world. Subsequently, Wanda is powerful enough to obliterate those objects in the blink of an eye. It's just another showing of Wanda coming to a deeper and fuller understanding of her powers — and anyone who pulls her out of Westview for good will likely be sorry.

Mind control is not a new power for Scarlet Witch, but WandaVision elevates the grasp of her telepathy. Her introduction in Age of Ultron showed her demonstrating mind control on a smaller level. She snaked her way into each individual Avenger's mind and implanted terrifying visions in their heads. But in WandaVision, she can control minds on a far larger scale. The show eventually reveals that Westview is a real town that Wanda took hostage. In order to make her sitcom dreams come true, she placed mass mind control and amnesia on each resident. Vision eventually breaks through to Norm, who tells the synthezoid how painful and terrifying the experience is. Later, Wanda temporarily steps out of the Westview hex barrier and telepathically orders a group of S.W.O.R.D. agents to take their guns off of her and place them on Acting Director Hayward.

Wanda has clearly leveled up when it comes to her mind control abilities. It's reflective of her journey as Scarlet Witch. When the show was announced back in 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege stated that fans would finally see her become Scarlet Witch. WandaVision episode 5 cleverly reminds the audience that Wanda has actually never been referred to by that nickname at this point in time, but it could be significant in the future. Wanda is coming into complete control of her Scarlet Witch powers, and Marvel's Phase 4 will likely explore what the consequences of that will hold.
