Hannibal: Every Major Relationship On The Show, Ranked

For fans and critics of the NBC series Hannibal, it’s clear that while the series might have been billed at first as a true-crime procedural, it’s actually a romance at its core. The compelling series had many interweaving elements that made for an engaging and well-written show, but the complicated relationship between Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham drove the story forward at all turns.

However, there are many other romantic relationships of varying degrees of importance in the series. And, while some of these couples were clearly meant to be together, others were pretty messed up.

10 Will Graham And Margot Verger

While Will and Margot are both beautiful and interesting characters, this brief relationship, if one can even call it that, was pretty messed up. For one thing, Margot is a lesbian, so a storyline where she has to sleep with a man to have a baby is a bit problematic.

But, the even worse part is that it appears she assaulted Will. He isn’t aware of what she is doing, and while we don’t know exactly what went down in the bedroom, it’s clear that Will didn’t know she was attempting to have his child.

9 Alana Bloom And Hannibal Lecter

This couple is one of the worst in the series because the entire relationship is a lie. Hannibal didn’t actually have any real desire to be with Alana, and he was manipulating her from the start.

Alana had no idea of who Hannibal really was, so this entire relationship feels disgusting and abusive. Alana is a character who deserved better, but thankfully, she finds true love and recovers from Hannibal’s manipulations.

8 Will And Molly Graham

After Hannibal gives himself up to the FBI, Will goes on to lead a somewhat normal life. He gets married to Molly and becomes a stepfather, and they have a nice life in a beautiful home surrounded by a lot of dogs. However, this relationship is another somewhat icky one because Molly also deserved better.

Will’s love for Molly might have been real on some level, but he is willing to abandon her pretty quickly for Hannibal. And, while he was trying to protect her, he didn’t even seem as connected to her as he should have been.

7 Hannibal Lecter And Bedelia Du Maurier

Pretty much any relationship that involves Hannibal is going to be messed up to some degree, but this one feels less upsetting than Alana and Hannibal’s. That’s because Bedelia knows who Hannibal actually is, so while it’s not to say there isn’t an element of fear and manipulation, she isn’t as clearly a victim.

They do also seem to have some twisted level of attraction to one another, and Bedelia isn’t some innocent person who had no idea what she was doing either.

6 Francis Dolayrhyde And Reba McClane

Most romantic relationships on Hannibal are complicated, to say the least. So, while there are some problematic elements to this love story, there are some strangely beautiful ones, too.

But, while fans did find something redeeming about the two of them together, Reba is another woman from the series who deserves much better than the man she falls in love with.

5 Will Graham And Alana Bloom

While in the end, more fans wanted Will to be with Hannibal, there’s nothing particularly wrong with this relationship. It did have some level of potential, and they did care for one another, too.

However, these two would never have worked as Will is too unstable and intoxicated by Hannibal while Alana saw Will as a wounded animal that needed saving. So, while they generally wanted the best for one another, they were better as friends.

4 Jimmy Price And Brian Zeller

This parking isn’t actually made canon in the series, but it’s very popular with fans and even the actors have shown their support for the ship. It’s clear that these two have a friendship with a lot of bickering which makes for a fun dynamic.

Plus, when fans compare their scenes with everything else that’s going on in the series, it’s a nice, hilarious reprieve from all the death and drama.

3 Jack And Bella Crawford

This relationship is one of the most tragic on the show because these two clearly did love each other a lot. This isn’t to say they had the perfect relationship or that they didn’t have their problems, but they had a wonderful love story that became sadder with time. Bella’s cancer and subsequent death were devastating to watch, and it clearly had a big impact on Jack.

It was even more difficult to see unfold because there was clearly distance between the two of them despite their love.

2 Hannibal Lecter And Will Graham

This relationship is the main one in the series, and there are so many things that could be said about this twisted, complicated romance. Their connection is strange and hard to define, but it was so intriguing that fans couldn’t get enough.

Many people still want to know how the relationship would have played out, but it’s clear that these two are drawn to each other in a way that’s both intoxicating and also violent for themselves and for others around them.

1 Alana Bloom And Margot Verger

This relationship is one of the best by far, and it’s one that needed to be explored even further. The series did something great when it defied tropes and made sure that Alana and Margot made it out alive with their son.

These two women triumphed over the terrifying men in their lives, and they found real love. Plus, they are both interesting and well-written characters, and fans wanted to see more of their relationship.
