Mandalorian Reportedly Recasting Cara Dune After Gina Carano Exit
The Mandalorian is reportedly expected to recast the character of Cara Dune after last week's firing of Gina Carano. Disney's first live-action Star Wars television series premiered on Disney+ in November 2019 and quickly became a fan favorite. In telling the simple story of a lone bounty hunter who comes to care for a powerful child, The Mandalorian won over fans old and new and miraculously managed to avoid the divisive responses that dogged the studio's Star Wars movies. However, the past week has shown that behind the scenes, not everything is quite as smooth.
Last Wednesday, Lucasfilm announced actress and former MMA fighter Gina Carano had been let go from The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects. Carano had been a controversial figure for some time, as on social media she shared posts that many found to be transphobic and anti-Semitic. Ever since The Mandalorian season 1, Carano had played Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune, one of the show's biggest recurring players. However, following Carano's ouster, the character's future remains uncertain.
According to a new report from THR, insiders with knowledge of the situation at Lucasfilm expect Cara to be recast in the future. She wasn't slated to appear in the next Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, but for story and merchandising purposes, she will be recast with a new actress.
