Parks And Rec: Friendships That Should Have Happened (But Didn't)
Parks and Recreation is one of the best feel-good shows around that can always lighten the viewer's mood. One of the reasons for this is because the show does just a wonderful job of depicting beautiful, supportive, and entertaining friendships.
From Leslie and Ann to Tom and Jean-Ralphio, there were countless unforgettable friendships throughout the seven seasons of Parks and Recreation. However, there were also a few places that seemed like missed opportunities for the show. Certain characters who never met or rarely interacted felt like they would have been ideal matches if given the chance.
10 Jerry And Kyle
While Jerry Gergich might not have been the best government employee, the treatment he gets from his colleagues is terribly unfair. However, it is also pretty hilarious and is made even funnier because of how nice and generous Jerry seems.
Kyle is another person who seems perfectly harmless but is the target of a lot of scorn. He is a regular customer at Andy's shoeshine stand and is regularly insulted by Andy for no reason. These two mistreated men could have bonded and provided much-needed support for each other.
9 Jamm And Sewage Joe
Just as it seems fitting for two great people to be friends, it is also fitting to see two awful people become friends. Though it is a long list, Councilman Jeremy Jamm and the Sanitation Department worker Sewage Joe are probably the two worst people in Pawnee.
Both men are gross, sexist, and arrogant men who seem oblivious to the fact that they are so hated. If these two met and started hanging out with each other, it might mean they would bug the normal people less often.
8 April And Mona-Lisa
April Ludgate is a peculiar person and she can have some pretty odd choices in friends. One of her best friends is Orin, a very creepy and intense young man. She also becomes obsessed with the self-centered housewife Tynnyfer.
It seems like April likes big and unique personalities which is why she would be fascinated with Mona-Lisa, Jean-Ralphio's even wilder sister. Despite these two having completely different personalities, they would likely just enjoy being weird together.
7 Craig And Ethel
Craig Middlebrooks was a late addition to the show who quickly made an impression with his volatile personality and habit of yelling in any scenario, even when he is happy. He is a very passionate person about very random things and he would certainly be delighted by Ethel.
Ethel Beavers is the incredibly old government employee who seems to have little patience for the job anymore. While she might be exhausted by Craig, they would likely see eye-to-eye on their many shared frustrations.
6 Jean-Ralphio And Joan
Jean-Ralphio is Tom Haverford's best friend and partner in many of his ill-fated business ideas. He is also one of the most entertaining supporting characters on the show as his mind seems to move a mile a minute with new ideas and distractions, without ever coming up with a worthwhile thought.
He would be the perfect companion to another great supporting character, Joan Callamezzo, the seedy media personality. These two are very self-centered which seems to work nicely and they would also add share the opinion that they are a bigger deal than they actually are.
5 Ron And Mayor Gunderson
Ron Swanson is a hard guy to be a friend with as he prefers not to get too close to anyone. However, his hatred for government and his desire to get as little done as possible would mean that he would likely admire Mayor Gunderson a great deal.
Pawnee's mayor is mentioned throughout the show and seems to not take the job very seriously. He is seen for the first time following his death in the final season (and played by Bill Murray, no less). In a video that plays at his funeral, Gunderson admits he didn't pay attention to the job much and would blame the citizens when anything went wrong. Ron could certainly respect that.
4 Chris And Ron Dunn
One character who seemed like a good match for Ron Swanson was Ron Dunn. Apart from sharing the same first name, both men are gruff, nature-loving men with great mustaches. However, Ron Dunn soon reveals himself to also be a vegan and a pacifist which doesn't sit well with Ron Swanson.
However, Ron Dunn's peaceful and environmental philosophies would be a great fit for Chris Traeger. They would find mutual interests in their vegetarian eating habits as well as their overall positivity.
3 Leslie And Jennifer
When Leslie Knope is running for City Council, she must contend with the political operative Jennifer Barkley who is overseeing the campaign of her rival. Being on opposite ends of the campaign means Leslie sees Jennifer as an enemy even though she is very nice to Leslie in personal settings.
Jennifer plays the political game dirtier than Leslie does, but she is also very good at it and Leslie respects her. It would have been interesting to see these two powerful women becoming friends and learning things from each other's approach.
2 Tom And Perd
Tom Haverford is obsessed with celebrities so it makes sense that he would try to latch on to some of the local big names in Pawnee. However, one figure he didn't spend much time with was the hilarious newsman Perd Hapley.
Perd has an awkward and matter-of-fact way of delivering the news and often seems oblivious to how strange the stories are that he is covering. Seeing Tom's wild energy paired with Perd's very calm and subdued energy would be great to see.
1 Andy And Bobby
Bobby Newport is the son of a local businessman who steps outside his rich and spoiled life to run against Leslie for City Council. He is not the brightest man in town and doesn't seem to have a clue what this campaign is actually about, but he is also very friendly and harmless.
That kind of charming immaturity with a mix of stupidity is exactly what makes Andy Dwyer one of the funniest characters on the show as well. These two man-children would have a lot of fun together and it would have been great to see Chris Pratt and Paul Rudd play off each other.
