Resident Evil Village Is 'Best Survival Horror Game To Date' Claims Capcom
Ahead of Resident Evil 8: Village’s launch this Spring, a Capcom producer has claimed that it is “the best survival horror game to date.” Capcom recently held a showcase for Resident Evil 8, the latest game in its famously gruesome and terrifying franchise. Along with the exclusive Maiden demo for the PS5, fans were treated to a new gameplay trailer that gave more insight into the fate of Ethan Winters.
Resident Evil 8 follows on from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which saw Ethan Winters and his wife Mia escape the Baker house and all the mutated horrors that lay within. Various gameplay trailers for Resident Evil 8 have revealed that Ethan and Mia Winters moved to a snowy European location after the events of Resident Evil 7, and that the couple now have a baby girl; Rosemary. Sadly though, this idyllic set up is quickly ruined, as Chris Redfield shows up and shoots Mia… and proceeds to kidnap Rosemary. For what, for who, or for why is still unknown.
In a recent interview with PlayStation Official Magazine (via wccftech), Capcom’s producer Peter Fabiano has spoken more about Resident Evil 8, and what fans can expect from this latest title. Touching on how Capcom’s Resident Evil teams have all worked together on Village, with its conception starting before Resident Evil 7 was even out of the gate, Fabiano proclaimed that the teams all became “quite attached” to protagonist Ethan Winters. As such, they wanted to continue his story arc with their players. This care and affinity towards the character have helped keep Capcom’s “…vision on target,” in what Fabiano states the team “… consider the best survival horror game to date.”
In the same interview, Fabiano further confirmed that Resident Evil 8 is taking a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. This is great news to long time fans of the series; RE4 is (for now at least) the most acclaimed title in the franchise, with an impressive score of 96 on Metacritic. Fans have already been delighted by the return of the merchant character that was first found in RE4, although this time around Capcom has been called out on its fat-shaming trope. Unlike the merchant in Resident Evil 4, the merchant in RE8 (AKA The Duke) takes on an incredibly rotund figure, that sees him literally bursting out of not just his clothing, but his cart as well.
There are only a few more months to wait until Resident Evil 8 makes its highly anticipated debut on consoles. Between now and then, however, there is the promise of an additional demo. Set to release on multiple platforms, little else is known about what more Capcom has up its sleeves for its next teaser. While the Maiden demo set pulses raising with its visuals, eerie atmosphere, and the internet’s current darling Lady Dimitrescu, Capcom has never hidden the fact that Castle Dimitrescu is only a small part of what Resident Evil Village will encompass as a whole when it is finally released. This leaves a lot of map potential and gameplay scope still to come.
Resident Evil Village will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on May 7, 2021.
