Spider-Man Becomes 'Uncle Ben' To Venom's Son In King In Black

Warning! Spoilers for Venom #33 below.

For Venom's son Dylan Brock, his life has been filled with confusion, strange new powers, and intense tragedy. With Eddie Brock getting killed by the King in Black, Spider-Man has promised to look out for his son. As the remaining survivors gear up for a fight against Knull, Peter Parker is doing his best to give Dylan much-needed advice, just like Uncle Ben did for him.

The King in Black has ravaged the Marvel Universe, covering the planet in a symbiote dome, while unleashing his army of dark dragons. Earth's Mightiest Heroes have struggled with Knull's immense power, as he's dispatched of some of the greatest fighters in the galaxy, including ripping the Sentry in half, with relative ease. The answer to defeating the King in Black seems to be Dylan Brock, Eddie Brock's son who is half-symbiote, half-human. However, once Eddie was split from his symbiote and killed (his Codex spirit is currently in the Hive alongside Agent Venom), Spider-Man promised to look after Dylan.

In previews for Venom #33 by Donny Cates, Iban Coello, Jesus Aburtov, and VC's Clayton Cowles, Peter Parker does his best to give an angry Dylan some important advice. He tells Eddie's son that he's been in a similar place as him before, as he lost his parents and a lot of people in his life - but that despite everything, the world keeps spinnings and will continue to ask things of you. He tells Dylan that no matter how many times he gets knocked down, that special people like the both of them need to keep getting back up because they have the power to stop bad things from happening.

Peter offers Dylan something that was never offered to him, a choice. He says it's okay if he can't be a hero right now. He says that despite all of the calls he might be the answer to stopping Knull, there's no way of knowing if that's true. He adds they can overcome it with our without him. Despite Peter telling him he'll protect him if he doesn't want to face Knull, Dylan responds by telling him that "I need to hurt something."

Famously, Peter was told by Uncle Ben that with "great power, comes great responsibility." However, Spider-Man is offering Dylan a choice he never had. The speech is a great moment between Peter and Venom's son, as Spider-Man knows the weight that comes with being a hero in the face of great darkness. While Dylan has to be reassured knowing Spider-Man is looking out for him, he's ready to use his great power to take down the King in Black. Venom #33 is is in stores next week.
