The Bachelor: Who Is Aloe Blacc & What Song Did He Perform On The Show?
It was a magical night on the February 15 episode of The Bachelor, thanks to Aloe Blacc and his beautiful, expressive voice singing his hit love song, “I Do." But what else is there to know about this talented musician?
Aloe Blacc is a singer and songwriter best known for performing the songs “Wake Me Up” and “The Man.” He was nominated for multiple BRIT Awards and a Grammy. A talented artist whose work has covered many genres, he is also half of the rap duo Emanon with producer Exile. Blacc has also performed hip-hop, soul, reggae, and pop. While not one of the richest R&B singers, he is known for his philanthropy. He has actively supported groups trying to cure diseases, such as Malaria No More, and groups supporting immigration reform and international peace. On his website, aloeblacc.com, he says “I try to do whatever I can to help people out [all the negative]. I want my music to be the light.”
On The Bachelor, Aloe Blacc chose to perform his piano ballad “I Do,” which was the perfect song to fill the evening with romance. The song, which is featured on Blacc’s fifth album, All Love Everything, was originally dedicated to his wife, Maya Jupiter. The lyrics celebrate the beauty of marriage. Originally, the California native and his Mexican-Australian fiancée had a small civil wedding ceremony. Ten years later, Blacc took the opportunity to propose for a second time so the couple could renew their vows. The preparation leading up to their vow renewal was used for the “I Do” music video.
The Bachelor wasn’t Blacc’s first appearance on a reality show. In 2014, Adam Levine chose Blacc to be his team’s mentor on season six of The Voice. In 2019, he appeared on NBC’s Songland, a show where aspiring songwriters compete to have their songs recorded by famous singers. On the show, Blacc teamed up with director David Leitch to select a song for the then-upcoming movie Hobbs and Shaw, eventually choosing the song “Getting Started.” In 2020, Blacc was the first runner-up on the Fox series The Masked Singer. He took the opportunity to pick many songs by female singers that showed off some of his falsetto range, including Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time” and Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally.”
Whether the musical evening will lead to a happy marriage for the couple on The Bachelor, fans will have to wait and see. But it certainly was an enjoyable evening for viewers, thanks to Aloe Blacc’s exceptional voice.
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
