The Vampire Diaries Characters, Ranked Least-Most Likely To Win The Hunger Games

A violent show in its own right, the world of The Vampire Diaries translates easily to The Hunger Games. Elena’s group of loved ones rarely stay human for long, and regardless of their supernatural status, they know how to fight and protect themselves.

Many qualities come in handy when in the fight for your life, and the teenagers of Mystic Falls have used them in one form or another. Death is not a stranger, and many of them would fare well in a survival competition. However, many would be the weak link too.

10 Elena

Most notable for her compassion, Elena is not someone that would last long in The Hunger Games. This compassion isn’t just attributed to friends and loved ones—though they do cause a soft spot for her often enough. Elena cares so deeply for people that it can cripple her.

Even when she is blessed with the strength and speed of vampirism, she would be one of the first to perish in a dystopian society. Elena doesn't have a strong survival instinct and lets herself die when it came to saving her friend Matt’s life. Should she ever find herself in a competition, she would gladly sacrifice herself so that others would survive. She would be the first to go.

9 Stefan

Second only to Elena, Stefan has a strong drive to be a sacrificial lamb. Not as weighted down by caring for others as Elena is, Stefan’s fatal flaw is his guilt. After 150 years, Stefan still couldn’t get over his bleeding heart.

Being thrown into a situation where he is forced to murder other people would not be a good situation for him. If the inability to kill innocent people wouldn’t stop him, his crushing guilt would soon take him out of the running.

8 Jeremy

Jeremy went from angsty artist, to vampire hunter, to dead. If he was thrown into a bloody free-for-all, his combat training would be an asset. But when it comes to surviving, luck hasn't ever been on the side of the Gilbert clan.

Jeremy had many near-death experiences, with an actual death thrown in for good measure. Jeremy had training, but after he came back from the dead, he did not seem to have much interest in it. Jeremy's ambivalence towards fighting would lead to his defeat in the games.

7 Caroline

Caroline became her best self when she was turned into a vampire. Even her best friends admit she became better after she died. Caroline’s neuroses turned into self-confidence. And with her vampire abilities, she became a decent killing machine. However, her humanity never wavered. Many vampires in their time turned off their humanity, but this was rarely a concern for her.

Though Caroline would certainly be able to hold her own, she still holds onto the part of her that’s human. She values her friends, and if she was forced to choose between survival and protecting her friends, she may not be able to make the choice to survive.

6 Alaric

Introduced as a well-informed vampire hunter, Alaric Saltzman was, in some ways, born to fight. After his wife chose to leave him and become a vampire, Alaric devoted all his energy to being a competent fighter.

Although he was a spirited fighter, holding his own against vampires or other tributes would prove to be a challenge. As hard as Alaric tried, there was always someone better.

5 Damon

Like his brother, Damon lets his heart do most of his thinking. Unlike Stefan, when his heart tells him to, he will often go on a murderous rampage. Some of his most brutal ideas come after he is left or his heart is broken.

Though he tends to lean towards the more violent, he is also one of the most intelligent characters on the show. He would make it far in The Hunger Games due to being able to plot and make strategic choices. His downfall would inevitably come though, as there is always something to set him off the deep end and distract him from his true goal.

4 Kai

Kai had a talent for violence at an early age. His first kills were members of his own family, and he even attempted to destroy his twin sister. These abilities would serve him well in a sport dedicated to murder. Kai has no qualms over betrayal or any ethical dilemma about killing.

His only weakness is the fact that he is a sociopath. His lack of empathy would get him far, but his madness would ultimately destroy him. Despite his intelligence and bloodlust, he can never understand how people feel and would not be able to anticipate anyone’s motivation.

3 Katherine

After being on the run for 500 years, Katherine’s aptitude for survival would be her greatest asset. Born as a simple peasant girl, she rose fast after leaving her home in Bulgaria. She caught the eye of Niklaus, and once she betrayed him, she had to learn quickly how to survive.

Not only is she good at running, but her deceptive and brutal qualities come naturally (which included her obsession with torturing her doppelgänger). Katherine would be one of the best killers and liars in the game. Even when she seems trustworthy, she is playing an angle. She would be one of the most lethal tributes in play.

2 Bonnie

Bonnie has no desire to commit murder, but she would still make it far in the games. More than once Bonnie has proven that her will to do what is right gets her pretty far in life. She has had to go without her magic in the show, but still can outsmart those more powerful than her.

Bonnie would be a fan favorite in the Capitol due to her personality and intelligence. She is one of the few characters that would garner goodwill with the audience. She would be able to get sponsors, and being a fan favorite is necessary to win the games.

1 Klaus

Intelligence and lack of empathy get someone far in the games. Lucky for Klaus, he has both of these qualities. Klaus would be difficult to beat, as he has lived most of his life plotting, manipulating, and destroying people. He has the best attributes of a career tribute in the games. Murder is second nature to him.

He knows how to play the long game. Even when he killed his brothers, the rest of his family stuck by him. No matter what the cost, Klaus is always intent on winning.
