WandaVision: 10 Sitcom Legends Fans Hope Make A Cameo
WandaVision, the Disney+ mega-hit that also serves as Marvel Studios' first foray into television storytelling, is about to reach the halfway point of its run and so far, it's been killing the homage to classic sitcoms. The only thing lacking from the authenticity of decades-gone-by setpieces, however, is a cameo from one of those Nick at Nite/TV Land stalwarts who made names for themselves when there were just three channels available.
While WandaVision is currently gearing up for a detour into a Family Ties-inspired 1980s pastiche, there is still hope that Wanda Maximoff and Vision might still find a way to traipse through in a more rapid succession. Even if they don't, though, there will always be room for beloved sitcom legends to make a quick cameo. It'd be treasured even more than a greater Marvel universe appearance.
10 Maureen McCormick
The last time fans checked in on Westview, Wanda and Vision were in the throes of a canned laughter-imbued, Kitty Karry-All-featuring episode that paid homage to The Brady Bunch.
While Robert Reed and Florence Henderson have since passed away, the Brady children are still going strong. Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia, is still particularly active among them. If only one Brady kid can pop by, McCormick might just represent the most iconic one.
9 Tatyana Ali
In the plethora of interviews given by the talent behind WandaVision, none of them have mentioned The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as an inspiration for one of the eras of the Marvel series. Still, there can be room for a cameo for one of those Will Smith-adjacent NBC stars.
Alfonso Ribeiro might be too distracting, as beloved as he is. Instead, Tatyana Ali, who portrayed Ashley (the series' most underrated character), would be a most welcome presence. She could even be a nonplussed resident of Westview and it would go over quite smoothly.
8 John Goodman
One series the top brass at Marvel have referenced as an inspiration for the 1990s is Roseanne, which was famous for its Halloween installments. (Witches just go hand in hand.) While Roseanne herself should not stop by, would anyone be opposed to a cameo from John Goodman?
Or, if the Mephisto theories hold true, perhaps Goodman could take on an even bigger role. His turn in Barton Fink shows that he can play a lot more than a down-home, good-natured father figure, after all.
7 Julie Bowen
Many of the trailers and clips from WandaVision focus on the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s homages. Yet, a few stills have been seen of Wanda in a mockumentary capacity with a frazzled outfit and hairstyle.
She's pulling big Julie Bowen energy in scenes like that. The Modern Family star helped take the family sitcom into the modern era and while Ty Burrell has already turned up in the MCU with the Hulk, Bowen is ripe for a cameo as a Maximoff parallel.
6 Keith Thibodeaux
A cameo from Keith Thibodeaux wouldn't be one as easily spotted as a turn from Bowen or Goodman. However, it might be the sweetest Easter egg if the show's creative team managed to pull some strings and orchestrate a pop-up from the actor.
In case the name isn't familiar, Thibodeaux is the last living regular cast member from I Love Lucy, the earliest touchstone for WandaVision. Thibodeaux portrayed Little Ricky, the son of Lucy and Ricky. He'd be a most welcome face in the sitcom celebration.
5 Justine Bateman
Michael J. Fox recently announced in a new memoir that he was retiring from acting, which is entirely understandable. It does also mean that any hope for a cameo from the Family Ties star is unlikely. But WandaVision could still honor the '80s sitcom with a Justine Bateman cameo.
On top of Family Ties, Bateman also appeared on later, more unconventional sitcoms in the 2000s. Her presence could help bridge the gap between the eras and the influences that pushed the medium and genre forward.
4 Jenna Fischer
While Modern Family is an obvious reference point for WandaVision, especially considering its presence in the Disney family, it still seems like the Marvel series will be spending some time in a space resembling The Office.
Some promotional images have Wanda's hair styled like Pam and Vision has spent some time at the workplace so far. Would it be so far-fetched to think that Jenna Fischer could be answering the phones just a few desks away from Vision?
3 Bob Saget
Elizabeth Olsen has already stated that there won't be an appearance from either of her sisters (the former actors behind Michelle Tanner on Full House) on WandaVision. Yet, that doesn't mean there can't be a blatant Full House reference.
It would be impossibly nostalgic and endearing to see Bob Saget turn up as the Full House cameo representative. Maybe he could sit Wanda down on her bed and teach her a lesson about ripping apart the multiverse while schmaltzy music plays in the background.
2 John Stamos
Of course, if Saget is unavailable, Disney superfan John Stamos might be more game to milk some laughs from the WandaVision faithful. Who wouldn't love an uncle-centric cameo from the Full House star?
Just imagine if Wanda and Vision are trying to effectively parent Billy and Tommy when they suddenly hear "Have mercy" come from the attic and the soft early chords of an Elvis staple. It would be an iconic moment.
1 Dick Van Dyke
Nothing would be more iconic than if Dick Van Dyke turned up on WandaVision, though. After all, he is an icon and a legend of stage, music, and big and small screens.
Dick Van Dyke is probably among the ten most beloved celebrities in the entire world. Kevin Feige and Matt Shakman did pick his brain about how to deliver on a wholesome sitcom of yore, just as the legend did with The Dick Van Dyke Show. It's not entirely impossible that he might appear for a brief moment, even though he's in his nineties. After all, he had a ton of energy in Mary Poppins Returns. If WandaVision could only procure one sitcom legend to cameo, it should be Dick Van Dyke.
