WandaVision: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The MCU's Quicksilver
Plenty of fan theories have been pointing to Quicksilver's return to the MCU, thanks to recent foreshadowing in WandaVision and the fact that the character really didn't get his chance to shine on screen. Having only appeared in Age Of Ultron, audiences would be forgiven for forgetting about the existence of Wanda's twin brother, Pietro.
Because of his limited screen time, there's plenty that fans may not have picked up about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the character. Of course, this isn't the only version of Quicksilver in live-action, but, as WandaVision continues to get more bizarre, it's definitely important to revisit the fallen Avenger.
10 His Powers Were Dormant
The common assumption is that both the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver gained their powers from the Mind Stone, which was previously held in Loki's Sceptre. Baron Strucker wanted to experiment on live humans, to see what the Infinity Stone was really capable of.
However, both twins actually had powers dormant in them all along. Rather than the Stone giving them their gifts, it simply allowed something deep inside of Pietro and Wanda to awaken. The unanswered question here, which WandaVision may give clues to, is why they both had those powers? Are they Inhumans or perhaps the first Mutants in the MCU?
9 Growing Up With American TV
Unfortunately for these siblings, they had quite a poor upbringing. Sokovia has been in both political and financial turmoil for quite some time. But, Pietro and Wanda found solace in the television, watching their American shows.
These TV shows have gone on to influence Wanda's false reality in WandaVision and there's no telling how they also impacted Pietro. Despite having the TV, they weren't fully aware of who Tony Stark really was, instead, learning his name from the side of a bomb.
8 He Knew His 'Parents'
The comics and the MCU may have set up different origins for these characters. In the comics, the pair knew about their father Magneto and lived with their mother for some time. In some versions, the characters actually had false parents until their true lineage was revealed.
For the MCU, Pietro and Wanda actually remember their parents. Both of them were killed by the bombs that dropped on Sokovia. However, while these may be the guardians they remember, it's still possible that the master of magnetism is still their blood relative.
7 Political Activism
Although he had so little screen time in Age Of Ultron, audiences did get to learn a great deal about the character. For instance, both he and his sister were politically motivated, attending multiple rallies, protests, and eventually riots.
Their core goal was to fight against the Americans and especially Tony Stark, who they saw as a corrupt and dangerous entity to their country. They were so effective in their mission to sow chaos and push back that they were on a watchlist for both Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D.
6 Playing Into Hydra's Hands
Unfortunately, Hydra staged a number of riots and protests to see who they could pry on with their experiments. Pietro, especially, played right into their hands, eventually becoming a volunteer for experimentation.
Many of the events of Wanda's and Pietro's life were orchestrated by evil forces in some way. It's ironic that the man who thinks he's one step ahead at all times has been one step behind both Hydra and Ultron.
5 Dangerous Idealism
Pietro has far more conviction in his beliefs than Wanda. It has always been Quicksilver that pushed the twins into more and more dangerous activities. It was him who thought they should join up with Hydra.
In fact, it was Pietro who Ultron manipulated more into joining them. Quicksilver has always had a more idealistic set of values, corrupted though they may be. His enemies have played upon that; Ultron would have more diffictulty against Wanda by herself if he was to return to WandaVision.
4 Quicksilver's Violent Streak
Quicksilver may have a stronger conviction, but he also has a more violent streak. Often, his political motivations take him to more violent actions. He of course has a kind heart, though he is sometimes quick to temper.
His emotional state in the comics has sometimes been a reflection of his powers and the same could be said for the MCU. Wanda is usually more measured in her responses, until after both Vision's and Quicksilver's deaths. Age Of Ultron definitely got that element of Pietro's characterization right.
3 A Love Interest
It was barely touched upon in the film, but deleted scenes and extra content surrounding Age Of Ultron has revealed a potential love interest for Pietro. Quicksilver has always been a bit of a ladies' man in the comics.
The womanizer is seen putting the charm on Zrinka, a Sokovian woman who he is trying to help. Interestingly, she appears a few times throughout Age Of Ultron and has a son who plays into Quicksilver's own narrative.
2 Pietro's Sacrifice Was For The Child
One of the downsides of Age Of Ultron was that the writers decided it was best to kill off Quicksilver after only one appearance. Many assumed that his death was a sacrifice in order to protect Hawkeye, who he had come to respect (even in spite of their rivalry).
Look closer though and the boy that Hawkeye is trying to protect is the son of Zrinka. While Hawkeye was a bonus, Pietro's true mission was to save the young child, perhaps to give him the future that was taken from Quicksilver.
1 Healing, Durability, And Reflexes
Quicksilver's powers surpass just speed. Everything about his body works quicker. He thinks at a heightened rate and his reflexes have evolved to match. He also heals much faster than a normal human; although, unfortunately, not enough to survive Ultron's bullets.
The character is therefore far more durable. A scrape to an average human wouldn't even phase this superpowered Avenger. His full abilities hadn't even been explored on-screen as the character was still early into his career.
