5 Batman Villains We Want to See In Live-Action (& 5 We Don't)
He is vengeance. He is the night. He is the Batman. Ever since the Caped Crusader came to live-action, he has faced off against increasingly tougher and smarter enemies, from the campy Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin to the psychopathic Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. Batman is all set to confront Colin Farrel's Penguin in the upcoming film, The Batman.
That said, there are still many villainous foes that have yet to come to the big screen, who may appear in the rumored Pattinson trilogy. Batman has a huge library of supervillains who might be making an appearance in future movies. Some would be great to see on the big screen, while others should be avoided.
10 Want to See: Clayface
Clayface is the perfect Batman supervillain for a noir-thriller. He can transform into anybody, which would force Batman into using his detective skills to figure out the real Clayface. There have been many versions of Clayface, but the most popular one is the Basil Karlo iteration.
He has appeared in many Batman media as his enemy, most prominently as the final boss in Batman: Arkham City, and as part of Harley's crew in the series, Harley Quinn.
9 Don't Want to See: Man-Bat
Dr. Kirk Langstrom became the Man-Bat when he tested a serum on himself that could give humans a bat's sonar abilities. However, the experiment went horribly wrong as he was transformed into a hybrid human and bat monster.
Man-Bat isn't nearly as interesting as some of the other Batman villains, and he wouldn't fit into a detective noir movie. He could, however, work as a secondary villain or anti-hero. A creature resembling the Man-Bat has appeared in the DCEU in Bruce Wayne's nightmare, so an actual version may not be so far off.
8 Want to See: Red Hood
Red Hood is perhaps one of Batman's greatest villains. After the Joker captures Jason Todd, the Robin, he tortures and kills him. However, he is resurrected by Ra's al Ghul through the Lazarus pit. While Batman believes he has been dead, Jason returns to Gotham years later as the Red Hood.
A live-action movie would certainly take inspiration from the animated feature, Batman: Under the Red Hood. An appearance by Red Hood would no doubt require a lot of backstories and setting up, but fans would be absolutely thrilled to finally see Jason Todd on the big screen.
7 Don't Want to See: The Mad Hatter
Inspired by the Hatter from Lewis Carroll's Alice Adventures in Wonderland, Jervis Tetch, a scientist, invents a technology that lets him control the minds of his victims and starts committing crimes by the name The Mad Hatter. He has appeared in live-action in the Fox series, Gotham, but has yet to make an appearance on the big screen, and hopefully won't anytime soon.
Mad Hatter would never work as the main villain of a film, as he is far less complex and nefarious than some of the other Batman villains. Although he can make an appearance as a minor villain, it wouldn't make sense to add such a well-known character to simply be a minor hindrance to Batman.
6 Want to See: Talon and the Court of Owls
The Court of Owls is an ancient secret organization that has operated in Gotham for hundreds of years before Bruce Wayne was born. The leaders of the Court always wear white owl masks and have used murder and crime to develop enormous influence in the world. They employ assassins known as Talons to commit these murders.
The Court of Owls would make the perfect villain(s) for a detective thriller film, as Batman would go toe-to-toe with an entire organization of criminals and assassins. While The Court of Owls appears in Gotham, they will hopefully make a film appearance soon as well. There are actually some fan theories that the Court might appear in The Batman.
5 Don't Want to See: Solomon Grundy
Although Solomon Grundy made his first-ever appearance as a Green Lantern villain, he has also appeared in many Batman stories, particularly in Batman: The Long Halloween. He has also shown up as a boss battle in Batman: Arkham City, where he was used by The Penguin to try and kill Batman.
Grundy's backstory is quite fantastical, as he is an undead, reanimated zombie, something that wouldn't exactly go along with the gritty, realistic version of Batman that the upcoming films will undoubtedly be. Solomon Grundy should stay dead as far as his appearance in movies is concerned.
4 Want to See: Hugo Strange
Professor Hugo Strange is a genius criminal mastermind who was one of the first supervillains to figure out the Caped Crusader's real identity. He is an expert chemist and psychologist, and he was able to figure out that Batman was in fact Bruce Wayne just from making notes and creating a psychological profile.
He would make for a perfect villain in a detective thriller, and fans have yet to see him on the big screen. Hugo Strange's most widely known appearance yet has been as the main villain in Batman: Arkham City, although the character was in Gotham, played by B.D. Wong.
3 Don't Want to See: Firefly
Firefly was originally depicted as Garfield Lynns, a special effects creator who used his specialized knowledge of pyrotechnics to commit crimes but Lynns was later re-imagined as a sociopathic pyromaniac. This version has since been used popularly, most prominently in the Batman: Arkham series.
He has also appeared in CW's Arrow and Gotham. However, he has always been more of an annoyance and an impediment to Batman rather than a true supervillain. A character who is great in small doses, but ultimately a hindrance, Firefly should be one of the last villains to be brought into a live-action Batman film.
2 Want to See: Hush
Batman: Hush has been one of the most popular comic book storylines in Batman history, and has even been adapted into an animated film. Dr. Tommy Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, who later took on the identity of Hush. He had attempted to murder his parents and held a grudge against the Waynes after Bruce's father managed to save his mother.
Batman: Hush is a psychological detective thriller that would be perfect for a live-action Batman adaptation. He is the literary foil of Batman - both rich orphans with genius-level intellects, but while one chooses to be a superhero, the other chooses to be a villain. Hush made his first live-action appearance in Gotham and has since also appeared in The CW's Batwoman.
1 Don't Want to See: The Ventriloquist
As far as supervillains go, Arnold Wesker, known as The Ventriloquist, isn't exactly the worst of the worst. Wesker is a ruthless crime boss and he is certainly an interesting character, being a ventriloquist with multiple personalities who carries a dummy named Scarface, but he is another character who is just a minor villain.
If introduced as a supporting villain, The Ventriloquist would definitely be a good hindrance, but sadly, the character simply cannot carry a movie on his own. Perhaps he can be shown as part of Black Mask's gang (if he's ever brought back) in the DCEU in future movies but as of now, he should remain off the big screen.
