Alien: A New Family Has Inherited The Xenomorph Legacy

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Alien #1

Marvel Comics has just released the very first issue of their new Alien series, and it seems as though the terror of the Xenomorphs may soon become a family affair. Marvel's new series, set in the universe of the classic sci-fi franchise, puts its focus on Gabriel Cruz, a recently retired defense agent for the Weyland-Yutani corporation. However, he's also the survivor of a terrible Xenomorph attack, which saw many of his fellow agents slaughtered by the lethal predators. Now, Cruz has returned to Earth, though his son Danny looks to be experiencing his own Xenomorph trauma in the present.

At the beginning of the issue, Gabe is sharing some of his past Xenomorph trauma with a Bishop model android, created to offer counsel as a therapy unit. He then attends his going-away party, right before he's sent back to Earth to supposedly live a happy retirement. Gabe is also hoping to reconnect with his grown-up son Danny, as the two of them have long been estranged due to Gabe's time away and work for Weyland-Yutani, so much so that Danny has become a member of a group of anti-corporate activists. Combined with Gabe's lasting trauma from the Xenomorphs, reuniting with his son does not work out so well.

Additionally, Danny stole Weyland-Yutani data and access codes from his father, using them to get him and his group into Epsilon Station in Alien #1 from writer Phillip Kenndy Johnson with art by Salvador Larroca. While they were hoping to blow up what they thought were going to be cyber-warfare programs and secret server farms, they instead find a  Weyland-Yutani bio-lab, and the company has been dangerously experimenting and running tests on the Xenomorph species. Inevitably, the test subjects are released and Danny may very well get his own Xenomorph trauma just like his father (should he survive).

It seems as though Marvel's new Alien series may very well lead to Gabe and Danny reuniting in the face of the horror that is the Xenomorph species. While Gabe can learn that his beloved company is not as pure and good as he thought, Danny can come to the understanding of all his father went through in the past. While this is all just speculation at the moment, it does seem likely. The estranged father and son coming together to survive would certainly be an interesting dynamic from Phillip Kennedy Johnson for sure.

In any case, Marvel Comics' new Alien series has kicked off to an equally engaging and terrifying start, beginning a dark mystery of corporate espionage that also has the personal touch of Gabe and Danny's broken relationship. Here's hoping Danny is able to survive his encounter with space's deadliest creatures long enough for his father to rescue him from the Xenomorphs in future issues from Marvel Comics.
