Ant-Man 3 Reportedly Has A Supremely Bizarre Working Title
Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania gets a working title that strongly hints Kang the Conqueror is set to cause some chaos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The third film in the Ant-Man franchise, and Paul Rudd's fifth outing in the MCU following his appearances in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame. Also returning are Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp/Hope Van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne. Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania will also feature Jonathan Majors, reportedly as Kang the Conqueror.
Another new cast member is Kathryn Newton, with the Big Little Lies and Freaky actress replacing Emma Fuhrmann after Cassie Lang's role was recast. Little is known of the plot, though the title hints that it will significantly involve the Quantum Realm, which seems a natural progression after it was explored in both Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame. The movie doesn't have a release date yet, but filming is set to get underway sometime in the spring or summer for a 2022 release. That means pre-production on Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania should be happening already, and a new working title seems to confirm that.
Comicbook.com reports that social media says Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania will be starting production under the code name of "GOAT Rodeo." Not a reference to the pets seen on the set of Thor 4, the title is likely a nod to the events in the movie. Marvel is well aware of how fans will pore over their working titles and have taken to dropping clues in them and often faking out the fans for fun. GOAT Rodeo could be either, frankly, so it remains to be seen if it does reveal anything about the upcoming sequel.
According to a quick internet search, the term "goat rodeo" refers to an event that goes so disastrously wrong that you can't do anything but sit back and watch it in horror. One option, then, is that the working title refers to Kang the Conqueror sowing some serious chaos in the movie thanks to his Quantum Realm shenanigans. It's widely accepted he'll join the MCU via the Quantum Realm, and this "goat rodeo" seems to reveal it doesn't go well.
Of course, the working title could also be a bit of misdirection from the filmmakers, leading to it being just an inside joke. In popular culture, GOAT as an acronym refers to the Greatest Of All Time, which could be an in-joke about how Scott Lang sees himself in the MCU. Whatever the reference, the working title for Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania is sure to get fans theorizing.
