Loki’s need to prove that he was better than Thor stemmed from his insecurity about being worthy to his father. However, he never had any problems with his mother Frigga, but also didn’t get to have a final moment with her either.
Now that this continuity will be set at a time when Frigga is still alive, the hope is to see Loki visit his mother and have a true heart to heart. More so than the character, it would be closure for viewers, who only saw Loki grieve over Frigga’s loss. Here, they could watch him make amends with her the way Thor did in Avengers: Endgame.
