How to Install (& Play) The Container Crafting Mod for Valheim
The modding community of Valheim has been busy making optimizations and fixes for Iron Gate's new beloved game. User 'aedenthorn' has blessed us with a mod that changes the game, called "Craft Build Smelt Cook Fuel Pull From Containers," allowing players to use chests as an extended inventory for crafting or building. Players no longer need to fill their inventory with wood to build, all they need is a container nearby with wood, and the building piece will be peaceable!
Before installing, players should backup their local save files just in case. If this is the first time a player is installing a mod, they will also need the BepInExPack Valheim pack. Once the BepInEx pack is installed, download the "Craft from Containers" mod .zip file found here on Nexus mods, and copy the .dll from the download to Valhiem/BepInEx/plugins folder. Nexus mods also offer their Vortex mod manager, which is excellent for organizing mods for multiple games. With the mod installed, let's take a look at its features!
The Craft from Container mod works seamlessly. For it to activate, a workbench or other crafting station like a cooking station or stonecutter needs to be within range of a chest containing the necessary resource. Chests within range are shown by the same connection animation used for crafting station upgrades. If a player wants to build any item now, they just need to make sure the supplies are in a nearby chest! It gets even better. Players can place meats from nearby chests directly on cooking racks and keep all their ingredients in nearby chests for meads and higher-end food. Better yet, if the player is working on a stone-based building project, keep the materials needed for a stone cutter on-hand and a cart full of stone nearby! Here's the full list of actions that will pull resources from chests in range:
- crafting an item
- upgrading an item
- building a construction piece
- adding fuel or ore to a smelter
- adding wood to a kiln
- adding fuel to a fire, standing torch, or sconce,
- cooking food in a cooking station
- doing whatever it is you do with windmills
Players can also fill things like furnaces or kills in a single keystroke by holding down "left shift" while depositing to place the max amount. Alternatively, players can hold "left ctrl" to only use items in the player's inventory. "Left Alt" toggles the mod on and off. If players want to modify the configuration file, they can find it after running the game and mod once in BepInEx/config/aedenthorn.CraftFromContainers.cfg. Happy crafting, and watch out for those Deathsquitos!
Valheim is in Steam Early Access and is available for PC.
