Iron Man Returns To His Endgame Nightmare in Marvel Comics
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Iron Man #7
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Iron Man, Tony Stark experiences a similar nightmare as his MCU counterpart in Avengers: Endgame. In the concluding film of Marvel Studios' Infinity Saga, Tony Stark was trapped along with Nebula on the Guardians of the Galaxy's derelict ship after losing the battle with Thanos during Avengers: Infinity War, and the pair of them were marooned with no way to call for help. Likewise, the Iron Man in the comics has just been marooned out in space himself, having no way to reach his allies and trapped on a remote planet.
In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark was prepared for the end. Short on power, food, and supplies, Iron Man was nearing death after 20 days adrift in space. Thankfully, Captain Marvel eventually found them, flying both Nebula and himself back to Earth to rejoin with the surviving Avengers. However, being marooned after such a big failure was certainly a harrowing and dark experience for the Armored Avenger, and it looks as though the Iron Man in the comics may just find himself in a similar situation.
Having assembled a team of allies to go out into space to face a seemingly unstoppable threat, Iron Man has just found himself separated from his team and marooned in Iron Man #7 from writer Christopher Cantwell with art by CAFU. Before becoming lost in space on an alien world, Iron Man is seen aboard his team's ship, desperately having his friend Warn Machine amp his suit's strength to dangerous levels, as he fears that they won't be able to stop the android villain known as Korvac. However, after using the shared psychic link created by Korvac to torment and manipulate Hellcat and Tony, Iron Man is teleported to an unknown region of the galaxy (though Korvac claims it isn't his doing).
Now Iron Man is stuck on an alien world that he doesn't recognize, and he's also lost the ability to fly or send a message to his allies. At the moment, he doesn't even know if he's in the same reality. While Korvac may be attempting to give himself the powers of a god in the Marvel Universe, it seems as though he genuinely didn't intend for Iron Man to be sent to wherever he now is. However, one notable difference between Iron Man being marooned here in the comics as opposed to Endgame is that Stark has come across a group of sentient alien life forms identifying themselves as a "colony patrol," meaning that the comics' Stark already has more hope than the MCU Iron Man had.
In any case, it seems as though the core of the nightmare is still the same: Tony is marooned in the galaxy, while also holding the fear that's he's failed. Considering the fact that Iron Man's new team is pretty far from the typical assembly of Avengers, Stark potentially has much to be worried about if he can't get back to them before Korvac finds them. Hopefully, Iron Man's stranding in this series will be shorter than the one in Avengers: Endgame, and he'll be able to get back to the fight in future issues from Marvel Comics.
