It Takes Two Looks Like the Perfect Game For Couples In New Trailer
Developer Hazelight Studios and publisher Electronic Arts have unleashed a brand-new gameplay trailer for It Takes Two, which demonstrates why the co-op title could serve as the perfect game for couples to play together. The second project from Josef Fares' team at Hazelight, It Takes Two debuted its first gameplay trailer late last year during The Game Awards 2020.
It Takes Two follows Cody and May, a couple on the verge of divorce whose daughter, Rose, wants nothing more than for their family to reunite. A desperate Rose takes matters into her own hands, creating two small dolls modeled after her parents that they both magically transform into. As if their doll-like existences aren't enough, the pair are soon thereafter awakened by Dr. Hakim, a self-help relationship book that guides Cody and May through a series of puzzles and challenges. Whether or not such efforts will save the couple's broken marriage remains to be seen, but It Takes Two's inventive gameplay mechanics do seem perfect for couples in the real-world.
Publisher Electronic Arts shared a new It Takes Two trailer that boasts a fresh look at the title's co-op gameplay. Throughout the trailer, Cody and May use teamwork to overcome a wide variety of challenges, most of which were inspired by their real-life behaviors. For instance, one level depicts the two traversing May's chessboard, the same one Cody secretly used to build a toy castle. An overgrown version of Cody's greenhouse appears in another level, representing an analogy for what happens when people abandon their passions. The theme of love and reconnecting, in addition to the co-op mechanics, make it clear It Takes Two will provide a fun experience for couples.
This latest footage highlights what another It Takes Two trailer showcased recently - the co-op mechanics will ensure each level feels different. And those changes will be deeply inspired by Cody's and May's past actions, as evidenced in the trailer linked above. May's complaint that she rarely has time for hobbies informs her time manipulation abilities, for example.
It Takes Two is the third game helmed by Josef Fares, a Swedish film director and screenwriter who first broke ground in the gaming industry with 2013's celebrated Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. He and his crew at Hazelight Studios partnered with Electronic Arts to release A Way Out in 2018, another experience that emphasizes cooperative play.
It Takes Two hits PC via Origin and Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms on March 26.
