Loop Hero: How to Unlock The Orb of Expansion (& What It’s For)
Loop Hero is all about replay. Players will enter potentially eternal loops, defeating monsters and placing cards to manipulate the game to stack the odds in their favor. There is a lot of mechanics to the game that players will have to grapple with to fully tackle the main story's loop. Although the game initially seems simple, players will find that it's more complex than they previously thought.
One of the great things about the game is the amount of resources that players can pick up. To expand the camp and get further in each loop, players will need to collect resources. This includes the Orb of Expansion. This item is very important and equally difficult to pick up. Players can dedicate an entire loop run to finding an Orb of Expansion yet still struggle to locate this item. However, we can help!
To find the Orb of Expansion, players will need to defeat four enemies in a single fight. Unfortunately, this is both risky and rare in Loop Hero. Players can put build fights with specific tile combinations, but that only works for a short period of time.
Players who want to try creating their own four enemy fight can place a Vampire Mansion tile right next to a Village tile. The Village will become a Ransacked village for three turns. During this time, the tile will spawn four Ghouls and the Vampire Mansion will spawn a Vampire. This gives a small window of time to try to take out five enemies at once.
If the player managed to defeat the five enemies, the Orb of Expansion will have a chance to drop. Unfortunately, this is just a chance. The more enemies a player faces off with, the more of a chance that an Orb will drop. This setup will only give players three turns where the title of the village is Ransacked Village. The Ghouls will stop spawning after it becomes a Count's Land tile.
If the player has unlocked a Herbalist's Hut, they'll have access to potions and can use different tricks to heal during the multi-enemy battle. It may also be beneficial to players to build up the evasion stats on the Rogue to help stay alive. Additionally, players can build up the health regen of the Warrior to use as a tank while the hero travels the rest of the loop between battles.
Focusing on farming the Orb of Expansion through the Village and Vampire Mansion cards are probably the best bet to getting the Orb. Before heading into battle and farming the Orb, players need to be sure that the Village and Vampire Mansion tiles are in the deck before starting the Expedition, ignoring the chapter bosses to focus on spawning as many high enemy count tiles as possible, and briskly leave when the Orb is finally picked up.
Although using the Village and Vampire Mansion tiles are the most popular way to spawn Orbs of Expansion, they're not the only way to get four or more enemies to spawn at once. Another way to find and farm the Orb of Expansion is by using the map to the player's advantage. Find the U-Bend in the map's loop then, outside of the U-Bend, place a few Spider Cocoons. Inside the U-Bend, players will need to place the Vampire Mansion tile. Doing this will assure that each Spider Cocoon will have a minimum of four enemies per loop. Players can start with just one Spider cocoon and build from there are new gear is picked up.
This final method isn't necessarily a sure-fire thing, but it's definitely a strategy worth trying. All players will need to do is put a Grove on either side of a Chronos Crystal. This will ensure that the Groves will produce double the amount of ratwolves, which will give the player a better chance of getting four or more enemies on a tile. Although ratwolfs will move from tile to tile and the player will have less control, players won't have to deal with the damage that Vampires bring. Additionally, if players add a Vampire Mansion tile to a U-bend, there's an increased chance that players will be fighting a party of four or more.
Whatever method the player chooses, players are sure to pick up a few Orbs of Expansion and be able to open those tricky buildings. Before heading into battle, be sure to be properly upgraded and ready, especially players who choose to face off with Vampires. They're not an easy fight, but can definitely be worth it.
