Netflix Sparking Joy With New Marie Kondo Show This Summer

Marie Kondo will be returning to Netflix this summer with a new series, called Sparking Joy. Kondo's show, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, was inspired by her New York Times bestselling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying UpThe book and its companion series introduced the world to the KonMari method that urges its users to to sort their possessions into categories in the effort of keeping things that "spark joy" and discarding the rest.

Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, which debuted in January 2019, saw Kondo travel around America and help families de-clutter their lives and homes. Kondo earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for the series and inspired viewers at home to employ her methods to organize their spaces while watching from their living rooms. Fans have waited for a follow-up for quite some time and now Kondo has announced her highly anticipated return to the streamer.

Sparking Joy, which was picked up to series last year, will debut on Netflix this summer, according to The Wrap. The show will expand Kondo's organizational method outside of the home and tackle the de-cluttering of other spaces like businesses and communities, as well as inter-personal relationships. Netflix also announced the renewal of several other organizational-centric shows, including Get Organized with the Home Edit and Dream Home Makeover.

Although the series isn't technically a follow-up to Tidying up With Marie Kondo, it will herald the return of Kondo to television regardless. Details on the series are scarce, including the series' episode count or details on what locations Kondo will be going to, but luckily the summer will bring answers. Kondo's return also seems to be part of a larger effort on Netflix's part to expand their home-centric reality television shows, which have become a source of comfort for many stuck at home during the pandemic.

Kondo's show arguably gained even more relevance when viewers found themselves in quarantine for months at a time during the last year. Her return to Netflix will be an exciting chance to see her KonMari method implemented beyond the home. Sparking Joy will likely do just that, both for the people Kondo helps and those watching at home who find themselves increasingly inspired by her methods. With people still awaiting brighter days and a return to a semblance of normalcy, Kondo's return can't come soon enough.
