What To Expect From Sky Rojo Season 2 | Screen Rant

Will Sky Rojo season 2 ever happen? If so, when will new episodes release and what will they be about? The new Spanish Netflix show marks the latest project for Álex Pina, the creator of the popular Netflix series Money Heist. In Sky Rojo season 1, three sex workers band together and try to reclaim their lives as independent women.

In Sky Rojo season 1, a pimp named Romeo (Asier Etxeandia) recruits women to be waitresses at Las Novias Club, only to pressure them into becoming sex workers. When Gina (Yany Prado) attempts to settle a debt with her boss, the conversation leads to a violent encounter. Other sex workers named Coral (Verónica Sánchez) and Wendy (Lali Espósito) defend Gina and seemingly kill Romeo in the process, which kicks off the main action. Sky Rojo season 1 explores the protagonists' backstories though flashback sequences and leads to a climactic showdown at Las Novias Club.

The Sky Rojo season 1 finale ends with a major cliffhanger, one that may seem underwhelming for Netflix viewers who want clarity. Gina, Coral, and Wendy plan to set up Romeo and rob his club, but the final episode comes to an abrupt end just as the action ramps up. However, there's a good reason for the narrative structure of the first eight episodes, along with the final tease. Here's everything we expect for Sky Rojo season 2 on Netflix.

Sky Rojo season 2 was greenlit before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the industry. In November 2019, the Netflix series was officially announced with a two-season order and filming later completed in October 2020. Since 16 episodes of Sky Rojo were initially ordered, the filmmakers could focus on character development during the first eight episodes (which explains the season 1 cliffhanger). The aforementioned Pina and series co-creator Esther Martínez Lobato released a joint statement (via Slanted) in 2019 about their creative approach:

"We wanted Sky Rojo to have the same frenetic action as always, but to use that 25-minute runtime to underline the dynamic nature of the plot: the getaway, the race for survival. The third act of a movie or an episode is where all the energy converges to produce the most vibrant explosion of all the conflicts that are being narrated. What we set out to do was to make a constant third act, to funnel our entire story through that frenzied energy."

Assuming that Sky Rojo season 2 has already been filmed, new episodes could release on Netflix by the end of 2021. However, the streaming service may choose to stick with its traditional one-season-per-year model, which means that a second installment would debut in 2022. We'll predict that Sky Rojo season 2 will premiere in March 2022, but don't be surprised if Netflix prioritizes a late-2021 release if the series becomes just as popular as Money Heist or Elite.

The heist plan goes incredibly wrong in the Sky Rojo season 1 finale. Wendy is shot by the henchman Moisés (Miguel Ángel Silvestre), and Coral surprisingly revives Romeo after an overdose at Las Novias Club. She then states "the game has only just begun" via voiceover narration as the episodes ends. In Sky Rojo season 2 on Netflix, Coral may need to form a faux alliance with Romeo, all the while plotting to rob him so that she can run away with Wendy and Gina. As for Moisés, there's still unresolved conflict to address, most notably the fact that he gets buried alive in his vehicle, along with the revelation to his brother Christian (Enric Auquer) that he killed their abusive father with Romeo's assistance. Sky Rojo season 2 will theoretically show Coral strategizing from within Las Novias Club while Wendy and Gina team up on the outside.
