Manifest Season 3 May Have Answered The Show's Biggest Mystery
The answer to Manifest’s biggest mystery may have just been found in the season 3 premiere. Since the beginning of the series, the main characters have been plagued by numerous questions, but one in particular has haunted them since the pilot episode. What happened to the passengers on the plane when it disappeared, and how did everyone on it suddenly return alive five years later, unaffected by age?
Secret government plots, the “death date” that had them thinking they were all doomed to die on a given day, other linked disappearances, and the “callings” have often distracted them from figuring out the mystery that’s at the center of everything. A possible clue to it came in the form of the Fight 828 tailfin, but it only presented viewers with more questions. It gave the impression that Flight 828 crashed, and that the one that returned in the series premiere was a different plane altogether.
Teaming up with Vance (Daryl Edwards) and finding the tailfin in Manifest season 3’s first episode led to Ben (Josh Dallas) coming up with a new theory about Flight 828. Now, he thinks that the tailfin means that the plane really did crash, resulting in the deaths of everyone on board. He explained to Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) that he believes the plane was “put back” and that they were resurrected. The premiere’s final scene provided strong evidence for Ben’s theory when it showed the three drowned meth addicts from the Manifest season 2 finale floating to the surface, followed by one of them suddenly waking up.
Based on what’s already known, Ben’s find, and the last scene, it certainly looks like Ben’s theory is correct. All things considered, the evidence is solid, but it doesn’t necessarily provide confirmation that they were resurrected. Manifest could later offer another twist by revealing the dead passengers were replaced somehow by imposters who share the same memories. However, for the time being, Ben’s theory may be the one that the passengers will accept.
Even if the theory is true, knowing this would only give them a piece of the puzzle. They still don’t know the details, which could be central to season 3’s story. As for “how” it could have happened, Michaela assumed their resurrection - if that’s what it was - would have to be the product of divine intervention. At the end of their discussion, their focus appeared to be on the reason for why they’d be brought back to life. This may be indicative of what season 3 has in store for the main characters, as it could be that their next goal is to figure out why they were given a second chance. Having a specific purpose to fulfill is an idea they’ve considered a few times before, and one that could be at the center of Manifest season 3.
