Resident Evil Village Will Have Performance & Graphics Modes On PS5
During a recent interview, Resident Evil Village director Morimasa Sato teased the Performance and Graphics modes that the horror title will feature on PlayStation 5. Capcom is no stranger to offering players options on this front. As many a fan may already know, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition boasts multiple modes on the newer hardware from Sony and Microsoft.
One mode, for example, sees the action title running at 4K/30fps with ray tracing turned on. A 60fps mode with ray tracing enabled drops the resolution to 1080p. 4K/60fps is possible with ray tracing switched off; meanwhile, yet another performance mode allows the enhanced version of DMC5 to run at a crisp 120fps with ray tracing disabled. Thus far, Capcom hasn't shared too many Resident Evil Village-related details in this regard. However, it's worth noting that the Maiden demo on PS5 does feature ray tracing. An AMD presentation from several weeks ago also showed off RE Village's ray tracing capabilities on PC.
In an interview for the April 2021 issue of Official PlayStation Magazine (via MP1st), director Morimasa Sato was asked if RE Village will feature Performance and Graphics modes akin to those available in DMC5: Special Edition. Sato didn't divulge any specifics, but said "there are settings which will allow each player to optimize the experience according to their preference." The director additionally noted the team's intent fully utilizing the power of PS5 to "create a realistic experience." He added that in the past, the developers struggled to simultaneously prioritize great visuals and performance; fortunately, PS5 significantly reduces the hassle. Players on PS4 shouldn't feel left out, though, as RE Village will also run well on last-gen, Sato hinted.
Capcom may share finer details about performance options and the like during next week's Resident Evil Showcase, which will premiere on April 15 at 3:00pm PT. Notably, fans can expect the upcoming digital event to unveil a brand-new trailer, as well as previously unseen gameplay footage of RE Village in action.
The next chapter in Capcom's long-running horror series will star Resident Evil 7 protagonist Ethan Winters. Plus, similar to last year's RE3 remake, RE Village will come packed with a multiplayer component, RE:Verse, which should receive an open beta test weekend on consoles and PC.
Resident Evil Village arrives next month on May 7 for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
