Fallout 4: Coolest Cosmetic Items, Ranked | ScreenRant
Fallout mania is still going strong, with a TV series based on the horror/sci-fi game debuting soon. Fallout 4 may take place in a bleak, post-nuclear wasteland, but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of cool cosmetic items floating about, just waiting to be found. Throughout the player's adventures within the Commonwealth, they can stumble upon a number of these highly sought-after items. Some are useful in battle, while others are completely useless beyond their looks.
Whatever the case, cool knows no bounds and doesn't differentiate. Fallout 4 players looking for bragging rights will get them, provided they're willing to adventure far and deep enough. Here are the ten coolest cosmetic items littered around the Fallout 4 base game, and its several DLC packs. Happy hunting.
10 Leopard Print Bandana
If leopard print is one's thing, then this particular bandana should be on their to-get list. Sure, it sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn't do much to help players maintain a low profile, but that's quibbling. This particular cosmetic item isn't just one of the coolest in the game; it's also one of the hardest to find.
According to experienced players, finding one of these in an item drop is like Monty Python's crew finding the Holy Grail. The spawn rates are so rare that many gamers still haven't found one, despite multiple playthroughs and untold hours of gameplay. This fact alone is reason enough for lucky players to brag openly.
9 Lieutenant's Hat
Dedicated, hard-questing Fallout players can find this super-fashionable little accessory kicking around the game, provided they're willing to put in the work. The most obvious way to get it is to go through the complex "Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution" quest.
It provides a Charisma boost, but let's face it - who doesn't want to traverse the wasteland of the Commonwealth wearing one of these fancy little hats? Lazy players can order Dogmeat to seek out items around the Custom House Tower. Whether he returns with one or not, is another matter.
8 Bathrobes
It's uncertain how pleasant a wasteland shower can be, especially given the level of radioactivity in the groundwater, but a good purifier can take care of that. In order to make things a bit more bearable, one can slip on a fancy new bathrobe, if they can find one scattered about.
There are a few ways to pick one of these luxurious items up, including purchasing them from Anne Hargraves, looting around Far Harbor DLC locations, or scouring the Monsignor Plaza. Whatever the method, it's bound to make bath time a whole lot more fun.
7 Perfectly Preserved Pie
This is more of an environmental cosmetic item, but it still deserves mention. Many Fallout gamers know that finding an intact and preserved food item is about as likely as getting struck by lightning twice on the same day. Yet, there's one extremely sought-after item that Fallout foodies lust after - the PPP.
This "perfectly preserved pie" is exactly as the title suggests. The only real way to get one of these items in the game is by playing the Port-A-Diners...a lot. In fact, many gamers have spent hours trying to win one, and the method is based on a Luck system that builds up with each repeated attempt.
6 The Problem Solver
Cosmetic items aren't just limited to clothes and environmental options, but weapons as well. This particular item is one of the absolute grooviest, for obvious reasons. The Problem Solver is a Nuka World DLC weapon with a color combination that instantly throws any chance of stealth completely out the window.
And that's the point. It's loud, it's menacing, and it's fun. Getting one means getting up close and brutal with Mason during conversation options. If a player's Charisma is high enough, he'll reward them with the weapon. This is a good excuse to build up Charisma, beyond just winning arguments and persuading NPCs.
5 Grognak Costume
Grognak the Barbarian is a Fallout mainstay, and players love picking up the comics strewn about the wasteland not just to get buffs, but to possess some fun mementos. Imagine being able to don the Grognak costume for real. That's precisely why it's so important to pick one up, if possible.
Adding this costume means having a two-point strength buff, plus a damage multiplier of 20% with melee weapons. This certainly fits well with the costume's background. Plus, foolhardy enemies can suffer under the might of Grognak, at least in the mind of the player.
4 Silver Shroud Costume
Part of Fallout's huge charm is its references to both 1950s America, and the radio content of old. The Silver Shroud is as much a part of Fallout lore as Buck Rogers and The Shadow were to the radio serials of the 1930s. Donning the Silver Shroud costume isn't just cool - it also changes the dynamic of the game.
By donning the costume, many dialogue options change, which is great for Fallout players who want to start another playthrough. Add in some decent upgrade options, and the costume ends up becoming one of the most sought-after of the entire game.
3 Mechanist Armor
It may look goofy as all heck, but that's part of the charm of this particular armor set. Players can score it after completing the Automatron DLC questline and facing down Isabel Cruz for all the marbles. Once she gives it up, the player can walk around the wasteland in what is essentially a piece of 1940's sci-fi costuming.
The zany aesthetics are a big reason why this armor set is so cool, even if does make the player look like a garbage can on two legs. It provides a hefty boost to damage and energy resistance, while increasing endurance, intelligence, and charisma. Perfect for going up against Synths.
2 Thirst Zapper
Nuka Cola is synonymous with Fallout, and it was only a matter of time before someone took it to the next level. The Thirst Zapper is, without a doubt, one of the coolest cosmetic items in the game. Luckily, it's also a functional pistol with a bit of a story attached.
The Zapper starts out as a basic water gun, but if the player locates the Project Cobalt schematics, it takes on a far more destructive tone. It's hard to decide which of those two options is better, which means each player will have to decide for themselves.
1 Cappy Glasses
Nuka World players can locate one of the zaniest and coolest cosmetic items in the entire game - the Cappy Glasses. They can be found during the "Cappy in a Haystack" quest, in which they play an integral part of the plot.
Unfortunately, the Cappy Glasses are practically a one-shot item in Fallout 4. Once the quest has been completed, they don't serve the player by providing any significant buffs to character stats. Still, they're oh-so-cool to wear, whilst trotting around the Commonwealth.
