Fortnite Streamer Clix Permabanned For Accidentally Showing Nudity

In a move that many are deeming unfair, Twitch has indefinitely banned popular Fortnite streamer Clix for very briefly showing another streamer's nudity on stream by mistake. This joins one of many bans on the platform that have been considered overly harsh, while others are perceived as getting off scot-free for worse offenses.

Twitch is an incredibly popular platform with millions of uses, so it's understandably difficult to moderate. That said, there's little question that the platform has made a lot of bizarre choices and verdicts over the years. Words like "simp" and "virgin" were recently banned but certain racial slurs were still allowed in circumstances that are difficult (if not impossible) to properly moderate, calling in to question the platform's priorities. A new development is continuing to frustrate users with Twitch's strict - yet somehow still flimsy - rules and moderation after a streamer made a mistake on camera.

Fortnite streamer Clix was flicking between programs on his computer while trying to screencap something in-game, but ended up flashing a small thumbnail of a nude photograph saved to his computer's files. It was a brief, blink-and-you-miss-it shot of another male's streamer's buttocks, but Clix instantly recognized his error and started to panic while trying to move past it. Mistakes, strange thought they might be happeh, though - it seemed rather small enough to just ignore it. However, that wasn't the case, as Clix tweeted on Valentine's Day to reveal he was banned indefinitely from Twitch following this incident.

Fans have taken to Twitter with the hashtag "#FreeClix" in a bid to pressure Twitch into reversing the streamer's ban. Many have also pointed out the platform's alleged double standards, allowing other streamers to skate by with far worse offenses with few to no consequences. This has caused a lot of confusion among those who use Twitch, as the Amazon-owned company is usually very harsh when handling some subjects, like nudity, but seems to pick and choose who gets the worst of the consequences and why.

This has especially been received as unfair by the Twitch community after another streamer recently bent over completely naked on camera and fully exposed themselves on stream. That streamer was only banned for three days, and they claim they meant to record a video for their OnlyFans profile but hit the stream button by mistake. The validity of that defense aside, the very inconsistent moderation on display in these two cases has incensed Clix allies even more.

Twitch clearly has a moderation problem, with many questioning if the actual moderators themselves have personal biases for or against particular streamers. There have been other major problems over the last few months, such as popular streamer xQc being banned for having played a clip from their own stream. Twitch has also been heavily criticized for its liberal use of DMCA bans over things like music as well as in-game sounds, but the platform has apologized and promised improvements on that and other fronts.
