Apex Legends Switch Players Say It's Unplayable With Graphical Downgrade
Players who have tried out the Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends have flooded the official subreddit for the game with complaints about technical issues and poor visuals. The battle royale title was originally released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2019, with EA announcing that a Switch port of Apex Legends would release this year. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the title on Nintendo's hybrid console
Compared to the other versions of Apex Legends, the Nintendo Switch edition is noticeably less impressive in terms of its visual fidelity. In docked mode, the game runs at just 720p compared to the 1440p available on other systems and has a locked frame rate of 30 FPS. Meanwhile, the downgrade is even starker when Apex Legends is played in handheld mode.
Now that Apex Legends has officially launched on Nintendo Switch, players are finally getting to see how the battle royale game plays on the hybrid system. But the graphical and performance downgrade necessary to get the title to work on the Switch is not going down well with the community. Many of the complaints on the Apex Legends subreddit seem to focus on the fact that the graphics are blurry and that the frame rate has dropped significantly. This is making Apex Legends more difficult to play as it is harder to spot enemies that are further away due to the poor visuals. The problems seem to be particularly bad when the game is played in handheld mode, which causes the technical issues to become worse.
The problems with the Switch version of Apex Legends are not the only issues that players have encountered in recent weeks. The end of February saw Apex Legends Season 8 launch, although many users found that they were unable to play the game due to lag and connection issues. Plenty of players took to social media to express their anger at the fact that they could not experience the new content on offer.
It is not unusual for Nintendo Switch ports to not perform as well as other versions. The system is underpowered compared to its rivals meaning that it is difficult for developers to get titles to run at their highest settings on the Switch. It appears that Apex Legends is no different in that regard, although it is concerning that it is seemingly such a poor port according to the complaints.
Apex Legends is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
