New Girl: 10 Worst Things That Happened To Jess | ScreenRant
Being the main character of New Girl, it was understandable that the series centered on Jess. The whole reason why the group would end up becoming so strong was because of her, as she moved in and managed to make them closer. While this occurred, it is essential to note that Jess would develop significantly because of not only the others but also her ability to become sterner when needed.
Jess experienced a ton of hardship along the way too, and this ultimately helped her develop into a far better person. She reacted to the negative aspects of her life strongly, which of course, helped make her more loved by the audience. She certainly had her flaws and experienced hardships, but she did manage to work through a lot of them as she matured throughout the series.
10 Spencer Cheated On Her
Spencer cheating on Jess rocked her entire world. They had been dating for a long time and were even living together. That was why it was so hard for her to move on, as she spent her entire adult life at that time with him.
She was extremely heartbroken for a chunk of the first season, but it would slowly get better. The lone positive moment from this was that Jess would end up moving into the loft, where her life would become far better, as she made lifelong friends.
9 Date Stood Her Up
It took Jess some time to fully feel ready to start dating after Spencer. She finally ended up going on her first date after him but it turned out to be a disaster, as she was stood up at the restaurant.
This was a very hard scene to watch, as Jess finally gained the courage to start dating again, but was treated so harshly. The gang would end up going there to cheer her up though and it was one of the first moments that helped solidify their group.
8 Her Parents Got Divorced
Even though it had been years since the divorce, Jess still had a lot of trouble getting over it as an adult. In fact, she even planned a Thanksgiving dinner with them there as an attempt to get them back together.
The long-term impact that their divorce had on Jess was rather clear by these types of antics. Although she would catch the two kissing in the restroom, her plan did not lead to her final goal. Overall, it was just hard seeing her unable to cope with their separation.
7 Was Bullied By Schmidt When Unemployed
After Jess was fired from her first teaching job, Schmidt was rather mean and not supportive at all. Instead of helping her get back on her feet with care, he resorted to harsh tactics like turning off the loft's hot water.
It was understandable that Schmidt was worried about rent money, but this was just ridiculously mean behavior. Jess was in a very rough spot and did not deserve to be treated like that. It made the process of her finding a new job so much more difficult.
6 Had To Take Care Of Abby
Having Abby as her sister was an immensely challenging job, as the former was far too rambunctious. Their mother would make Jess pick up the broken pieces when Abby did something wrong, and it clearly was stressful.
When Abby stayed in their loft, it was also very taxing, as she did nothing but cause havoc. As a result of this, Jess went on to have a very challenging few episodes with Abby around, as all she did was create problems for her.
5 Hooked Up With Paul When He Was In A Relationship
When Jess reunited with Paul, she was unaware of the fact that he had a girlfriend. This created a lot of stress for her, as she not only felt awful about what she had done, but Paul kept pestering her for help.
Jess also was upset over the fact that she knew that she hurt Paul's actual girlfriend, even if it an accident on her part. Thankfully though, this issue would have a happy ending, as the couple would end up becoming engaged.
4 Always Was Taken Advantage Of By Bosses
Due to her kind nature, Jess was often taken advantage of by her bosses. She always seemed to take on extra tasks, as her principals were not hard working in the slightest. This would understandably cause her a lot of stress throughout the series.
It was certainly disappointing to see Jess have to experience this type of treatment, but it was all worth it when she finally quit. Jess was a spectacular teacher that was overworked to a significant degree.
3 Her Break-Up With Nick
The original relationship between Jess and Nick should not have ended, but alas, it did. This break-up was hard to see as fans, as it was clear that the love between them was still there, but they were fighting far too often.
Jess's dating life after Nick was also rather poor, as she seemed to fail to connect with her other partners in the same way she did with Nick. This was made apparent by the fact that she would not only end up back with Nick but also married him.
2 Helped Set Up Nick And Reagan
Jess was truly selfless when it came to her setting up Nick and Reagan. This was due to the fact that she was still in love with Nick, but she went out of her way to help him find his happiness.
Both Nick and Reagan came to Jess for advice before they ended up getting into their own relationship. Jess definitely was sad when it came to fruition, but of course, this would only be a temporary hindrance, as she would get back with Nick later on.
1 Thought She Killed Ferguson
Jess was under an immense deal of stress when she was under the impression that she killed Ferguson. She accidentally spilled glitter, and Ferguson ended up eating some. Sadly, a day later, Ferguson passed away.
She would end up telling the entire bar during the memorial, and she was understandably sad. However, Winston would then let her know that Ferguson actually died of a heart attack, as he was told by the coroner he hired.
